A fall festival at King Albert Public School

On October 7, King Albert Public School (KAPS) hosted their first after-school festival of the 2026-2027 school year.

This annual initiative brings students and their families together as an opportunity to connect with local community partners, representatives from the school and Trillium Lakelands District School Board, as well as other families within the school community.

Stations were set up around the school’s gymnasium that included fall-themed activities for students, including pumpkin decorating and seed counting, bowling, jenga, face painting, and guess the candy in the jar. A free draw for a Thanksgiving food hamper was also available to families with donations from KSPS staff.

A huge thank you to local community partners who attended to share information with families, including the City of Kawartha Lakes Library, Chimo Youth & Family Services, Lakelands Public Health, KAPS School Council, and The Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes.

“Our annual Fall Fest was a wonderful success and a fantastic way to welcome both new and returning families to the 2026-2027 school year! It was inspiring to see parents connect with staff and gather with other families while enjoying fun seasonal activities together,” said principal, Darla McQuarrie. “We were thrilled to have community partners on site so families could learn about their valuable programs and collect helpful resources. Bringing everyone together—and capping it off with a free draw for a Thanksgiving food hamper—really highlighted the warmth of our school community, and we are so excited for the year ahead!”
