Week #2 Update

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Week #2 is now complete and your child has attended their first four days of the school year.  Today was our first day with all students in attendance and the work and preparation done by students and staff learning all of the new routines and procedures definitely helped our first day with full attendance go smoothly.   Your cooperation, hard work, and patience are appreciated.

Here are a few reminders for everyone:

Student Masks

A reminder that all students are to be wearing a mask while in school, with the exception of eating times.  Below is the criteria for masks:

  • fit securely to the head with ties or ear loops
  • maintain shape after washing and drying
  • be made of at least two layers of tightly-woven material such as cotton or linen
  • be large enough to completely and comfortably cover the nose and mouth without gaps

Please help us by ensuring your child’s mask meets these criteria and by helping your child understand the importance of wearing a mask and the proper methods for putting on/taking off a mask.  As we approach colder weather, it is also wise for students to have more than one mask with them at school to change throughout the day because as the temperatures get colder in the morning, and condensation will build-up on the fabric when worn outside, it may become wet and uncomfortable.  Students are permitted to remove their masks outside of the school during recess and physical education and they are expected to maintain a physical distance of 2 metres.  Parents can also help be ensuring students understand the importance of maintaining a physical distance of 2 metres from others outside their immediate family and social circle of 10 people when they are not wearing a mask.

Student Handbook

Families should have received a copy of the Parent/Guardian Student Handbook this week.   Please take some time to review the contents of this book as there is important information for you to know.   If you did not receive a copy, there is a link to an electronic version below.

Daily Health Assessment

Just another reminder for parents to complete the Daily Health Assessment Checklist before sending your children off to school each day.  If your child has any of the symptoms listed, please follow the next steps identified and do not send your child to school.  Please remember that your child should be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.

Pick-Up/Drop-off

Our new pick-up/drop-off procedures have been working very well so far this school year.  A quick reminder that all parents should enter the school parking lot off Wellington Street.  Students in kindergarten can be dropped off along the front of the school and then parents can exit back on to Wellington Street.  Students in grades 1 to 8 should be dropped off along the side of the school and parents can exit the back of the school on to Salmon Avenue.  We recommend that parents stay in their car and proceed out of the parking lot as promptly as possible in order to avoid too much traffic congestion.

Thank you to all students and parents for a great start to the school year.  We are all excited to be back together as a Monck Public School community once again.
